Dear Advisors to the IAWA: current, former, emeritae, emeriti, and honorary,

You are cordially invited to become actively involved in the planning the 20th anniversary celebration of the International Archive of Women in Architecture in 2005! This Call for Collections offers an opportunity to contribute to the growth of the IAWA, an institution to which we are all deeply committed.

At the 2002 annual meeting of the Board of Advisors, we discussed several events for the celebration of the anniversary, among them a conference, an exhibition, and a call for collections. Although the Archive now has an astonishing 260 collections, the goal is to significantly increase the holdings and fill gaps in geographic and cultural representation of women in architecture and other design professions. With this letter we are asking current and former advisors to donate at least one project from their own work or to solicit a collection. If you do not have any appropriate contacts, please refer to the IAWA Guide to the Collections. Many women have only submitted a resume or firm brochure and could be contacted to donate actual projects.

In addition, we ask you to donate $200 (or more) to sponsor bringing a collection to the Archives from an "emerging nation." We would appreciate it if you could make your monetary and collection contribution by June 1, 2003. This would enable us to begin the next phase of the Call for Collections as we reach out to women architects in South and Central America, Africa, and other countries with you as a recognized sponsor. Donors and collections will be recognized in the major exhibition (with an online component) that will travel following the IAWA's 20th anniversary celebration planned for Washington, D.C., in 2005.

Please contribute to enhancing the IAWA by making your check payable to the Virginia Tech Foundation: IAWA and note "Call for Collections" in the memo line. Monetary donations and collections of works should be sent to the IAWA, Special Collections, Digital Library and Archives, University Library, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, P.O. Box 90001, Blacksburg, VA, 24062-9001 USA.

Thank you for your kind consideration of this request and your timely response. We appreciate your generosity and continuing commitment to the IAWA.

Sincerely,

IAWA 20th Anniversary Celebration Call for Collections Committee

Donna Dunay, IAWA Chair, 1997-2000
Inge Horton, Advisor, IAWA Board of Advisors, 1989 to date
