The Chair, Donna Dunay, called the meeting to order at 4:15.
Ms Dunay provided a tentative agenda and called for items to be put on the agenda. which was set at 1) Newsletter update (continued), 2) Board roster, 3) Acquisition policy question, 4) Spring meeting schedule, 5)Mid summer executive committee work session,
Ms Dunay reported that the current Newsletter will be ready for distribution in January. Ms Bliznakov will send ten (10) copies to each Board member.
The discussion continued onto the proposal for the next newsletter, submitted and circulated by Ms. Feuerstein on 9 December 1998 (attached). Ms. Bliznakov maintained that the Newsletter must only focus on the contents of the Archive itself. She warned that the Newsletter could be misused if it includes materials on non-donors. She suggested that the authors in the section "Other notes on Women in Architecture" use Archive material for their articles. She also suggested that news of "Visitors and Exhibits" to CAUS would be relevant if the visit or exhibit was related to a donation of work to the Archive.
The Committee continued to review the proposal offering changes and comments. Regarding the question of contributions by non-English speakers, Ms. Vernon suggested that the IAWA explore multi-language versions of the Newsletters.
Ms. Feuerstein will contact Evelyne Lang Jakob about an article on the work of Swiss women which was recently acquired by the Archive through Ms. Jakob's efforts. Ms Bliznakov will submit an article on recent acquisitions of work by Bulgarian women as well as some mention of work that has been lost or destroyed. Ms. Feuerstein will contact the Archivist for an overview of other new holdings.
Other articles will focus on research in the archive (Using and Building the Collection) including the purpose of the Milka Prize (Donna Dunay) as well as general data. Ms. Vernon agreed to contribute an article on archival material related to Industrial Design, and Ms. Marshall-Baker offered to write about archival material in Interior Design and Retail. Ms. Feuerstein offered to begin an article on the purpose of the Archive related to the acquisition of materials, perhaps with contributions from other members of the Sub-Committee. Finally, the Newsletter will include announce-ments including the Milka Prize, the IAWA symposium (possibly by Kathryn Clark Albright), the design for a bookplate, as well as Acknowledgments of Donors, Contributors, and other funding concerns.
Board members are welcome to offer proposals. Please contact Marcia Feuerstein. All articles should be drafted by the beginning of March so that the Newsletter can be printed and mailed by August, 1999.
Elsie Beam provided an updated Roster of the Board of Advisors ( dated 12/9/98) which accom-panies these Minutes.
Ms. Dunay announced that she would be on research leave during the Spring 1999 semester and asked that each Committee member take responsibility for meetings during that time. The Committee agreed to meet on the Second Tuesday of each month at 11:00 am in the New Architecture Conference Room. The only exception to this schedule will be on March 2, the first Tuesday of the month. Each member agreed to lead one meeting as follows:
| January: |
Marcia Feuerstein |
| February: |
Anna Marshall-Baker |
| March: |
Mitzi Vernon |
| April: |
Jeanette Bowker |
| May: |
Gail McMillan or Marcia Feuerstein |
Ms. Dunay asked the Committee to consider a date in July for the Mid-summer executive committee work session, traditionally been held at Milka Bliznakov's home.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 pm.
Respectfully submitted by Marcia F. Feuerstein, Secretary.
13 January 1999.
