Call to Order:

Chair Donna Dunay called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. J. Bowker moved to approve the November 16, 1999 minutes with minor corrections, M. Feuerstein seconded, and all agreed.

Agenda Items:

  1. Blueline of Newsletter has been printed.

  2. Partners report: Each advisor to the board should make contact with their partner during the first part of the year. The partners' discussion to be reported back to the Executive Committee in early Feb.

  3. Milka Bliznakov Prize: The poster announcing stage 1 finalist in the Milka Bliznakov Prize should be posted the first of the year and announced to the media. Three finalists will be announced at that time with a brief biography. Tony Wrenn had offered to give guidance to the first stage winners as to the development of their projects for the concluding second stage. Due to Tony Wrenn's time constraints, he may be unable to give his assistance. Jeanette Bowker and Marcia Feuerstein offered to develop comments for the finalists, since both will be jurors during the final deliberations.

  4. Grant opportunities: Gail McMillan reported on the Allied Signal Corporation that was submitted a year ago. Marcia Feuerstein reported on Getty grant, with February or March deadlines. It was mentioned that we should involve Gerrianne Schaad, the new Manuscripts Curator, in this discussion. There was a general discussion of other grant opportunities.

  5. Archive presentations: There was a discussion about meeting in the Special Collections office in the Newman Library every two months to view new holdings and existing archives. The following meeting dates were set: January 31 from 10-11:30 am, February 8, March 7 and April 11 from 4:00-5:30 in the Special Collections office (Newman Library).

  6. Potential Board of Advisors: Milka Bliznakov (who was absent). Identified members who will be up for re-election, and provided the Executive Committee with direction regarding new advisors to the archive from N-W USA and Asia.

  7. First registered architect in each state: Donna Dunay introduced research that she is conducting. A query has been submitted to each state chapter of the AIA seeking information on the first woman architect registered in each state. To date, four states have responded and the discussion is very interesting. Frank Weiner made the suggestion that it would be nice to have a photograph of each of these women architects. Donna Dunay suggested that the College of Fellows or Women’s Museum in DC could fund further research and publications.

  8. Mailing list (nominating committee): Hui-Min Tseng is working with Pat Williams and the Nominating Committee to compile a list of potential advisors, using the current mailing list. Marcia Feuerstein copied the mailing list to all advisors for review. Milka Bliznakov provided names from the AIA Archive of Women in Architecture.

  9. Newsletter#12: Marcia Feuerstein provided a draft of potential content and schedule

Donna Dunay adjourned meeting at 10:00 a.m. Next meeting January 31,10:00 a.m.

Minutes by Hui-Min Tseng, Marcia Feuerstein and Donna Dunay and submitted to Marcia Feuerstein, Secretary on 1/13/2000. Corrections made by M. Feuerstein 1/31/00
