Agenda Items

  1. Times and Dates of Meetings: We decided we will meet, for the rest of this semester, on the second Tuesday of each month at 3:00 p.m. The meeting dates for this semester will be November 14 and December 12. We decided that we will meet next semester at 3:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. The first two meeting dates for next semester were set at January 11 and February 8.
  2. Suggestion: Milka Bliznakov suggested that there be an article in the Spectrum about the Archive.
  3. Treasure's Report: Humberto Rodriguez-Camilloni reported on the donations. He said the donations came in two groups: Group 1 - $3,175.00 and Group 2 - $390.00. Group 1 consisted of the following donations: Eileen Hitchingham - $1500, Inge Horton - $300 Annette Burr - $100, Diane Elliot Gayer - $100, Rosaria Piomelli - $1,000, Doris Cole Goyette - $50, Eva Huebscher - $25, and Humberto Rodriguez-Camilloni - $100. Group 2 consisted of: Diane Favro - $40, Joan Wood - $200, and Patricia Williams - $150. Milka Bliznakov matched those donations with a donation of $4,000. The total number of contributions was $25,488.30. Humberto informed us that Judy Graham must submit a form to create an endowment fund. He said that all the donations will go in the endowment. He also said that the present account will be a working account. Marcia Feuerstein and Milka Bliznakov both suggested that we have two separate accounts to deal with contributions for IAWA and donations for Milka's Prize. Humberto stated that the interest earned from the endowment will go into the working account. He also said that $25,000 must be in the endowment account for one year. Milka stated that the endowment account should be established.
  4. Milka's Prize: Humberto Rodriguez-Camilloni suggested that we do not award Milka's Prize this year, but award Milka's Prize every other year, and have the winners present their results on campus. Donna Dunay expressed concern that the Prize would lose some momentum if we waited a year. In hopes of not losing momentum for Milka's Prize, Donna suggested we have Claire Bonney, last year's winner, present her outcome at Tech. Donna also said that the bank did not notify Claire when they had received the money. We had to track down the money for Claire. Marcia Feuerstein suggested that Tony, Humberto, and Evelyne Lang Jakob work on the Prize and present their proposal at the December meeting.
  5. Collection Development and Acquisition Policy: The group developed this policy. Gerri Schaad stated that the policy is a good first draft but she must be notified when a collection larger than five feet is coming. It was suggested that the IAWA have an e-mail discussion for 30 days, then make amendments and vote on. Gerri said that she would send the draft to everyone but Milka, and then she would send it on. Milka stated that everyone should be actively involved in soliciting materials for the archives. Milka also stated that she would take any solicited work that the archive doesn't accept and take care of it at her house.
  6. Accessing Value of Archive: Milka Bliznakov stated that we need some type of appraisal statement in order to know the cultural value of the Archive. Gerri Schaad stated that Special Collections does not appraise donations. Donna Dunay stated that Tony is willing to help with the appraisal process and suggested that Humberto Rodriguez-Camilloni and Tony Wrenn help with this process of accessing the value of the Archive.
  7. Additional Materials: Gerri Schaad stated that anyone can add names and information to the database and that she does not have time to add everyone to the database, therefore many women are not included. Milka Bliznakov stated that everyone can not be put in but we must keep updating it. Milka also expressed concern that any architect without a computer could not update the database.
  8. Letterhead: A copy of the new letterhead was distributed to the members present at the meeting by Donna Dunay for review and approval. Marcia Feuerstein said that she talked to Mitzi Vernon about the letterhead and Mitzi is still willing to work on it if necessary. Donna Dunay said that she is also willing to work on it.
  9. Newsletter: Marcia Feuerstein said that she and Donna Dunay are working on putting the newsletter together. Chris Calorusso, a Landscape Architecture graduate student and former editor, will be the copy editor. Donna suggested an article on the database and noted that she would like to write about Brinda Somaya's Exhibit. Marcia Feuerstein said she would like to write an article about books and Gerri Schaad suggested that Brinda write an article concerning Indian architects. Marcia suggested that we need to put together a list of articles and suggest their length. Milka Bliznakov proposed two articles for the newsletter.
  10. Milka's Corrections: Milka Bliznakov is working on the address/name corrections list given to her by Gerri Schaad. She will talk to Gerri about the list before Christmas.
  11. March Meeting: Donna Dunay will help Tony Wrenn set up the March meeting. She said they will try to make it as simple as possible. Donna asked if the meeting should take place on a weekend or a weekday. We will decide about the date of the March meeting at the next IAWA meeting.
  12. Other Business: Donna Dunay suggested that we assign a focus topic of discussion for each meeting.

Marcia Feuerstein adjourned the meeting at 10:10 a.m.

Minutes were taken by Erin Gertz and proofed by Brian Katen.
