IAWA Board of Advisors Working Meeting

Call to Order:
Chair Marcia Feuerstein, called the meeting to order at 10:15 A.M. Chair Feuerstein noted that the minutes had been approved electronically.
Chair Feuerstein welcomed guests, Dawn Bushnaq, Heather Ball, and Laura de Castro.
Chair Feuerstein asked for a motion to approve the agenda,. Professor Dunay so moved and Professor Clements seconded. The motion was approved unanimously.
Report from the Treasurer:
Professor Terry Clements reported that we have $846.82 in our operating account. One donation was reported, given by Erin Carraher.
Professor Clements suggested that additional information should be developed for those who request additional information about being a friend of the IAWA. Professor Bliznakov provided an example of this to Professor Feuerstein.
Report on Nominations:
Professor Vernon reported that there is still another week left for ballots of the current Advisors' election.
Professor Dunay suggested that we honor Tony Wrenn as an Emeritus Advisor. Chair Feuerstein agreed called for a motion. Professor Dunay moved that Wrenn be nominated for Emeritus. Professor Vernon seconded. During the discussion, Professor McMillan reiterated Wrenn's contributions to the IAWA. Professor Feuerstein called for a vote, Five were in favor, and one abstention and the motion was approved. Professor Dunay suggested that, along with the invitation, that Wrenn prepare a talk for the upcoming annual meeting on the history of "That Exceptional One" (AIA exhibition).
Professor McMillan asked that we compile information locally and give this to Wrenn. Professor Clements noted that we should have a nomination package about him for everyone (as a matter of record). Professor Dunay agreed to put this together.
There was a discussion regarding the nominations and elections of honorary advisors and advisors elected to incomplete a resigned advisor's term. It was decided that we should address this issue at the annual meeting in October.
Newsletter
Professor Heather Ball reported that she and Professor Edge have gone over corrections for the newsletter. They anticipate beginning formatting next week. She further noted that they have made arrangements to start scanning collections.
Professor Ball has not received a statement from Claire Bonney, (first Milka Prize recipient) regarding the status with her research. She has had no success reaching Ms. Bonney. Chair Feuerstein noted that we are pursuing return of the prize money since she has not been able to produce materials. Chair Feuerstein further stated that she had discussed with Ms. Bonney how she could continue to do the research but Bonney has not responded.
Professor Emerita Bliznakov received a note and article from Kayoko Kowatari, a Japanese architect, for inclusion in her article on Japanese women's architecture. A copy of Kowatari's letter will be donated to the archive.
Bliznakov Prize
Professor Dunay reported that she received inquiries about the upcoming new Prize, and she referred them to the web site. The current Prize is in stage two and due on Sept 1, 2002. Professor Dunay talked with Sarah Newbill about placing the announcement in the CAUS newsletter for the new prize beginning Sept 1.
Professor Bliznakov asked if we could have the material for the exhibition on the web site. Professor McMillan will ask about copyright permission before scanning materials from donors-this is the normal procedure.
2005 Exhibit
Chair Feuerstein reported that she and Dawn Bushnaq had developed a first application for seed money for phase one of the 2005 exhibition (happening during the IAWA annual meeting). It is attached to these minutes. Professor Dunay, Professor Bliznakov and Bushnaq have been working on the exhibit plans.
Regarding the exhibit, Professor Dunay reported that she and Shelley Martin had applied for a college seed grant and received $2500 to begin the biographical database, and there is money leftover. Chair Feuerstein noted that the IAWA will put in $500 for the effort. Part of the contribution will be in kind facilities and volunteer help.
Professor Dunay noted that we will need to fund Dawn Bushnaq through June 15 to help with the exhibit. She and Chair Feuerstein will follow up with Denise Orden, Assistant Dean of Finances.
Meeting Schedules
Everyone was asked to review their calendars for a summer meeting in June and report back to Chair Feuerstein.
Chair Feuerstein directed everyone to the call to help with the Annual Meeting. Professor Clements suggested that we create a preliminary schedule for the annual meeting, so that everyone is aware of the tasks. Chair Feuerstein will prepare this and send it to the Committee. Professor Bliznakov asked Professor McMillan to reserve two hotel rooms for the meeting. Professor McMillan will ask the Dean whether the Library will be able to pay for these rooms.
Other Business
Chair Feuerstein called for a motion for adjournment. Professor Vernon motioned and Professor Katen seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 11:05 A.M.
