Inaugural Meeting

Present: Solange de la Tour, Marcia Feuerstein, Lois Gottlieb, Donna Dunay, Junko Matsukawa-Tsuchida, Ute Westrom. Advisor proxies held by the Chair, M. Feuerstein: Kay Edge, Gerrianne Schaad, and Heather Ball.

Absent: Terry Clements, Kathleen Cruise, Yasmeen Lari, Paul Knox, Dean, College of Architecture and Urban Studies (ex officio), Eileen Hitchingham, Dean, University Libraries (ex officio), Jennifer Meehan, Archivist (ex-officio), Barbara Nadel.

Invited Guests: Milka Bliznakov, USA; Joyce Oron, Israel; Ioana Plesca, Belgium; Marc Vanden Berghe, Belgium; Alexandra Heraut, France; Diana Stan, Romania; Diane Gayer, USA; Maria Anna Fedes, Hungary; Alice Finnerup Moller, Denmark; Kayoko Kowatari, Japan and Kazuko Masamune, Japan.

1. The Chair called the 2004 Inaugural Meeting to order. The meeting began with an introduction of the Board and a welcome to new and a thank you to retiring advisors. After a call to order new advisors were welcomed. Welcome was extended to new advisors Heather Ball and Barbara Nadel. Quorum was established by a roll call and announcement of proxy votes.

2. Solange de la Tour moved to accept the Agenda without changes. Junko Matsukawa-Tsuchida seconded the motion. The motion carried.

3. The Board nominated and voted on officers for the coming year:

Donna Dunay nominated Marcia Feuerstein for Chair. Solange de la Tour seconded the nomination. No further nominations were received. Nominations were closed. Marcia Feuerstein was elected Chair.

Solange de la Tour nominated Heather Ball for Secretary. Lois Gottlieb seconded the nomination. No further nominations were received and nominations were closed. Heather Ball was elected Secretary.

Donna Dunay nominated Terry Clements for Treasurer. Lois Gottlieb seconded the nomination. No further nominations were received. Nominations were closed. Terry Clements was elected Secretary.

4. Heather Ball was nominated to Chair the Nominating Committee by Donna Dunay with a second by Marcia Feuerstein. With no further nominations the Board elected Heather Ball Chair of the Nominating Committee.

5. The Election Report was given during the previous meeting and thus the Chair moved to have it removed from the agenda of the inaugural meeting. Donna Dunay seconded the motion and it was carried.

6. Working Committees

a. Fundraising: no appointments

b. Newsletter: Kay Edge will continue to be editor of the Newsletter

c. Collection Development and Acquisitions: Gerrianne Schaad continues on this committee

d. Milka Bliznakov Prize: Donna Dunay and Marcia Feuerstein agreed to jury this year's Bliznakov Prize with former advisor Despina Stratigakos.

e. IAWA Director / Post Doctoral Fellow: no appointments, see new business below

f. Anniversary Celebration/Exhibit: Marcia Feuerstein

7. New Business discussion included: the use of Sigrid Rupp's bequest and considerations for the future structure of the IAWA; By-law changes needed to adjust to the university calendar year with stakeholders identified and charter confirmed; and the resignation of Jennifer Meehan effective September 24. The Board wished to express gratitude to Jennifer for her careful attention to the Archive during her time in Special Collections.

8. Donna Dunay moved for a temporary adjournment, Marcia Feuerstein seconded the motion, and motion was carried. The meeting was adjourned at 7:20PM.

11. The Chair re-adjourned the annual meeting at 11:30 AM 30 December 2005 in Blacksburg, VA

Present: Marcia Feuerstein, Donna Dunay and proxies for Heather Ball, Gerrianne Schaad, Lois Gottlieb, Ute Westrom, Solange de la Tour, Lois Gottlieb, Junko Matsukawa-Tsuchida, Kay Edge

Absent: Terry Clements, Kathleen Cruise, Yasmeen Lari, Paul Knox, Dean, College of Architecture and Urban Studies (ex officio), Eileen Hitchingham, Dean, University Libraries (ex officio), Gail McMillan, Archivist (ex-officio).

All present reviewed the minutes from the initial meeting and found all agenda items complete. Chair Feuerstein moved for the completion and adjournment of the Inaugural Meeting of 2004. Donna Dunay seconded the motion, the motion was carried, and the meeting was adjourned at 11:30 on 30 December 2004.
