February 2nd

President Diversity Grants - New Scholarships created to enhance diversity: 27 undergraduate scholarship and 3 graduate fellowships to attract under-represented groups.

March 29th

"The Faces of Changes" - University Diversity Strategic Plan wins award.

April 6th

First National Conference on Stepping sponsored by the Center of Interdisciplinary Studies held April 6th to 7th 2001.

Panel discussion on Virginia's American Indians: "What it Means to be a Virginia Indian in the Twenty-First Century".

April 9th - 14th

Holocaust Awareness Week.

April 10th

International Street Fair sponsored by the Council of International Student Organizations (CISO).

April 11th

Charlene Schiff, Holocaust Survivor who is associated with the United States Holocaust Museum spoke at Virginia Tech.

April 12th

Protest held at Buruss Hall. Students demanded racial justice precipitated by the arrest of Paulo Polanah, Black Studies professor.

April 17th

Elaine Brown, former Black Panther leader spoke on racism.

September 7th

LGBTA promotes the Safe Zone Program identifying areas in Blacksburg free of discrimination against individuals based on their sexual orientation.

September 13th

4th annual Celebration of Diversity held. Many groups participated including the Multicultural Awareness program, Filipino American Student Association and Society of Indian Americans.

September 21st

Civil Rights Weekend begins.

September 25th

3rd Annual Unity Day - Sponsored by the Virginia Tech Chapter of the NAACP.

October 24th

The National Society of Black Engineers and Office of Minority Engineering Programs hosted the Pre-College Initiative Weekend, a conference to "Reach Out to prospective minority students" interested in careers in engineering, mathematics and sciences.

October 26th

Skott Freedman, a graduate of Ithaca College spoke on issues of bisexuality in the gay community. Sponsored by the LGBTA of Virginia Tech.

November 2nd

Diwali, an Indian festival sponsored by the Indian Students Association.

November 6th

4th Annual Celebration of holiday Traditions Around the World.
Sponsors: Chinese Student Association, LGBTA, Society for Black Designers, Muslim Undergraduate Association, Latin American and Igeric Graduate Student Association.
