In contrast, grand houses with complex floor plans and elaborate decorative treatments were built for some substantial citizens in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, in particular on Roanoke and Main streets. One of the most ornate was the now-altered Alexander Black House, known today as the McCoy Funeral Home.
