Blacksburg Has Visitors To Inspect New Lock-Up

Blacksburg's new lock-up, built as an after-thought above the garage designed to house the new fire fighting equipment, has turned out to be the model from which other bastiles in the state are to be fashioned.

R. M. Youell, state commissioner of corrections, wrote the town council a letter in February, following an inspection of the jail which at that time was unfinished. Recently, the mayor of Galax, accompanied by three councilmen and the chief of police, visited Blacksburg and were shown the new jail by Sgt. D.M. Sumner. Inquires have come from Martinsville and other cities contemplating improvements in their jail facilities.

Citizens who are interested in how the town's funds are spent will find that much credit is due Councilman W. L. Crumpacker, who has supervised the construction and kept the expenditures to the minimum.
