3.0 Commencement Procedures For Graduate Students and Major Professors GENERAL INFORMATION Academic apparel may be purchased from the lower level of the University Bookstore. A mail order service is available by contacting the mail order department at (703)-231-5991. All spring candidates must apply for their degree by March 1, 1991. Each candidate must confirm their attendance by contacting the Graduate School at 231-5078 or 231-9558 to ensure that their name will be announced at commencement. Invitations for guests will be mailed in March for those graduates who have supplied this information on the Aplication for Degree. Guests WILL NOT need an invitation in order to be admitted. If you require special assistance for disabled persons, con- tact Wayne Speer, (703)-231-3787. Procedures for Commencement are listed below for the specific degree, including instructions for the Major profes- sors who will be participating in the hooding of their candidate. DOCTORAL CANDIDATES The Commencement Ceremony for doctoral candidates will be held Friday, May 3, at 4:30 p.m. Please report no later than 3:30 p.m. to Practice Gym 220-A, in Cassell Coliseum. A check-in point will be set up for candidates to insure their name is on the list to be announced. Commencement offi- cials will be present to give further instructions. Doctoral candidates are also invited to the University Commencement May 4, and should report to Southeast end of Lane Stadium, outside the stands, at areas posted, no later than 8:15 a.m. No doctoral candidate will be allowed to participate in commencement unless all requirements are met (including submission of final copies of disserta- tion) 10 days prior to commencement which is April 22. To ensure that your name will be announced by the Dean of the Graduate School, you must confirm your attendance by contacting the Graduate School office at 231-5078 or 231-9558. MAJOR PROFESSORS Major professors are asked to participate in the hooding of their doctoral candidates. Please confirm your attendance by contacting the Graduate School office (1-5078 or 1-9558). Academic apparel can be rented or pur- chased from the University Bookstore (1-5991). You should report to Prac- tice Gym 220A in Cassell Coliseum no later than 3:30 p.m., May 3. Commencement officials will be present to give further instructions. Please note that your candidate cannot participate unless ALL requirements have been met by April 22. For more information, please contact the Gradu- ate School Office of Programs and Clearances. MASTER'S AND CAG'S The University Commencement will be held Saturday, May 4, 9:00 am. Candi- dates should report no later than 8:15 a.m. to the Southeast end of Lane Stadium complex, outside the stands, at areas posted to indicate the appro- priate degree. Commencement officials will form the procession into col- umns. Diplomas will be issued to candidates for master's degrees and CAG's at the ceremony scheduled by each college or department. Questions pertaining to college/department exercises should be directed to the appropriate college or department.
