Minutes COMMISSION ON FACULTY AFFAIRS October 6, 1989 The meeting was convened in the Newman Library Board Room at 2:03 P.M. PRESENT: L.A. Eng, E. Fred Carlisle, John Perry, H.K. Doswald, D.A. DeWolf, H. Kriz, C.E. Polan, J.C. Duke, J.D. McAlister, R.E. Sorensen, A. Woodson-Robinson, John Hasselmann. ABSENT: F. Baumgartner I. AGENDA The agenda was adopted with the addition of CFA resolutions 88-89 C (Instructorship not part of probationary period) and 88-89 F (Sharing confidential information with Committee on Reconciliation). II. MINUTES The minutes of the meeting of September 15, 1989, were approved with editorial modifications. III. ACADEMY OF EXTENSION AND PUBLIC SERVICE EXCELLENCE The proposal for an Academy of Extension and Public Service Excellence was considered. A draft written by C.E. Polan and J.D. McAlister was reviewed and discussed as a possible response to the proposal by the Commission on Extension. It was concluded that there was a lack of enthusiasm for the proposed Academy. Chairman Eng will convey that message to Chairman Johnson. IV. COMMENCEMENT Proposals for changes to commencement were discussed. The plan as summarized by C.A. Kennedy generally seemed acceptable. V. OLD BUSINESS - RESOLUTION 88-89F - Confidential information for Reconciliation Committee. After discussion, it was recommended that University Counsel be asked to review the legal implications of the current resolution and find out what the Reconciliation Committee can request or expect to receive from others of a confidential nature about cases. VI. OLD BUSINESS - RESOLUTION 88-89C - Prior service as part of the probationary period. The Provost's office will obtain information on how other institutions handle this. VII. OLD BUSINESS - FACULTY SALARY ADJUSTMENTS (COLA) The Provost's office will determine the percentage of faculty that may have gotten zero or token raises in salary.
