                     COMMISSION ON FACULTY AFFAIRS

 

                            January 5, 1990

 

  The meeting was convened in the Newman Library Board Room at 2:14 P.M.

 

  PRESENT: L. A. Eng, F. Baumgartner, H. Kriz, J. McAlister, C. Polan,

           R. Sorensen

 

  ABSENT:  E. F. Carlisle, H. Doswald, D. De Wolf, J. Duke,

           J. Hasselmann, A. Woodson-Robinson

 

 

  I.  AGENDA

 

      The agenda was adopted.

 

 

  II. MINUTES

 

      The minutes of the meeting of November 17, 1989, were approved.

 

 

  III.WAIVER OF POLICY ON ADVANCED STUDY

 

      The Commission will recommend to the Provost that William Murphy

      of the Extension Service be granted a waiver from the advanced

      study policy in the Faculty Handbook.  This policy states that

      faculty members with the rank of assistant professor or above

      shall not become candidates for a degree nor be awarded a degree

      at this institution.  A waiver of the policy may be granted by

      the Provost upon recommendation by CFA.

 

 

  IV. PUBLICATION LIST FOR PROMOTION AND TENURE

 

      The Commission discussed the implications of limiting the number

      of publications that may be submitted for consideration during a

      promotion or tenure review.

 

 

  V.  The meeting was adjourned at 3:05 P.M.
