October 30, 1991

   Minutes of the University Communications Resources Committee

 

  Meeting:    Wednesday, October 30, 1991, 3 p.m.

  Location:   Donaldson Brown Continuing Education Center

 

  Attending:  Bevan, Crane, Crofts, Daniel, Fox, Furrow, Hunter, LaBerge,

              Litchfield, McAnge, McCoy, Morgan

 

  Guests:     Bowden, Lilly, and DeBord

 

  1.    Meeting called to order at 3 p.m. by Chair McAnge.

 

  2.    Minutes of the September 25, 1991, meeting were approved as

        corrected.

 

  3.    Project Update - Information Systems

        Ted DeBord gave a brief overview of the improvements and

        long-range goals of Printing Services.  Some of the changes

        mentioned were:

        --  Reorganization of Printing Services to Media Production

            Services which allows for the combining of resources and

            utilities.

        -- Establishment of Customer Services Unit.

        -- Leasing of off-campus space for storage of paper and other

           off-campus supplies.

        -- Purchase of digital equipment to enhance preparation and

           output capabilities.

        One of the long-range goals mentioned was to follow industry

        trends involving desktop publishing which includes digital output

        and the electronic archiving of documents.

 

  4.    Committee Charge

        Chair McAnge read the inputs received for the Committee's charge.

        It was the consensus of the Committee that the changes would be

        sent to each member for a final review.   The chair was also

        asked to request a clarification from the Secretary of University

        Counsel concerning the appropriateness of the revised charge.

        The charge will be an agenda item for the November meeting.

 

  5.    Vision Statement

        Problems and Issues listed in the Vision Statement were

        discussed.  There was no consensus of the group concerning the

        issues and problems the committee will address this year.  The

        chair will visit the Commission on Undergraduate Studies

        concerning student access issues.

 

  Next Meeting

        The next committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, November

        20, 1991, Donaldson Brown Center, Conference Room G, 3-5 p.m.

 

  Meeting adjourned at 5 p.m.
