                      COMMISSION ON UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES

                               December 10, 1990

  ABSENT:   Drs. E. F. Carlisle, M. Deisenroth, D. E. Egger, M. A. Lewis, J.

                Taper; C. Burch-Brown; B. H. Sgro.

 

  VISITORS: E. Guertin; Rick Bausum, Collegiate Times.

 

 

  1.  CALL TO ORDER AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

      Wanda H. Dean, serving as chair for Dr. E. F. Carlisle, called the

      meeting to order at 3:05 p.m.

 

  2.  The AGENDA was approved with one amendment.  Bill Kuster made a motion

      to add an agenda item regarding check-in for Spring Semester 1991.  The

      motion CARRIED.

 

  3.  The MINUTES of the November 26, 1990 meeting were approved as distrib-

      uted.

 

  4.  RESOLUTION 90-91 C, ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY, SECOND READING

      A motion was made and seconded to approve the resolution for second

      reading.  The motion CARRIED.

 

  5.  ENROLLMENT STATISTICS - FALL 1990 EXPANDED CORE COURSES - Wanda Dean,

      University Registrar, distributed statistics as requested by the Com-

      mission.  The statistics reflected enrollments in the core courses

      added during the summer of 1990.  Enrollments after the census dates as

      well as enrollments after the drop deadline were included.

 

  6.  INCOMPLETE GRADES - Wanda Dean explained that the Commission on Gradu-

      ate Studies had formed a sub-committee to review the current policies

      and procedures regarding "incomplete" grades.  Since this is a univer-

      sity policy, it is necessary for the Commission on Undergraduate

      Studies to join with the graduate commission in reviewing any change to

      these policies.  Ms. Dean asked that anyone interested in serving on

      this sub-committee forward a note to her or to Carol Burch-Brown before

      the next commission meeting.

 

  7.  COURSE CRITERIA COMMITTEE REPORT

      A motion was made and seconded to approve for first reading the Decem-

      ber 10, 1990 report.  The motion CARRIED.

 

  8.  CHECK-IN AND SPRING 1991 - Bill Kuster explained that since check-in

      was eliminated for Spring 1991, students would have one less day to

      complete class schedules during Spring semester.  He made a motion to

      move the add deadline to the sixth class day for Spring 1991 only. The

      motion CARRIED.  Wanda Dean noted that since the deadline was a univer-

      sity policy, approval from the Graduate School must also be obtained.

      She noted that a representative from the University Provost would con-

      tact the Graduate Dean for his possible approval.  After some dis-

      cussion of the calendar, Wanda Dean reminded commission members to

      forward any comments regarding the calendar to Dr. J. F. Wolfe, Chair,

      Scheduling and Registration Committee.

 

  9.  Meeting adjourned at 3:25 p.m.
