Richard Bambach, committee member, presented the minutes of the October

21, 1993 meeting. He stated that the committee is trying very dili-

gently to be open with the university community on athletic issues. In

reference to Item #9 of the minutes, he reported the university is not

in compliance with Title IX, Gender Equity in Athletics, at this time,

but anticipates full compliance by 1997-1998. This will involve the

addition of 3 women's sports and a total cost of approximately 3

million dollars. Motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes.

      The motion CARRIED.

  7. UNIVERSITY CORE CURRICULUM COMMITTEE - M. MURRAY

Marge Murray, Chair, presented the minutes of the October 12th, 26th

and November 9, 1993 meetings. She reported the main item of dis-

cussion in the minutes of the 12th was concerning Writing Intensive

courses with the minutes of the 26th focusing on a workshop addressing

the areas of the core. Marge stated the minutes of the 9th reflect ap-

proval of English courses for inclusion in the core curriculum, subject

to approval of the courses by the Committee on Undergraduate Curricula.

Motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes. The motion CARRIED.

      next two weeks.

  10. OTHER BUSINESS

o Ezra Brown reported the new course proposal format appears to be

working well, but noted there is no place for approval signatures

on the forms. The University Registrar's Office will make the nec-

          essary changes.

o Hayden Griffin proposed the Committee on Academic Policies address

the issue of students who enroll in a required course more that

three times and are unable to pass the course. He suggested that

after the third attempt, the student should be required to meet

with the advisor and/or dean to discuss the problem and make rec-

ommendations for the fulfillment of the requirement.

  11. Meeting adjourned at 4:15 p.m.

                                     Respectfully submitted,

                                     Steven D. Wilson

                                     Assistant to the University Registrar
