1.8 Article VIII. Amendments SECTION 1. AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION A. NOTICE OF PROPOSAL - Notice of proposal to amend the Constitution shall be given in the agenda and considered at no fewer than two meetings of the Faculty Senate prior to voting. A vote may be taken on an amend- ment at the second meeting. A copy of the proposed amendments shall be distributed with the agenda. A two-thirds affirmative vote of the mem- bers present is required for approval before submittal to the Faculty. B. VOTING - An amendment to the Constitution approved by the Faculty Sen- ate shall be submitted to a vote of the Faculty. The Faculty shall be notified and furnished with a copy of the proposed amendment at least two weeks in advance of voting. C. ADOPTION - For adoption, at least one-half of the eligible faculty mem- bers must vote. An amendment to the Constitution becomes effective upon approval by a two-thirds majority of the faculty members voting, and by the University Council, the President of the University, and the Board of Visitors. SECTION 2. AMENDMENTS TO THE BYLAWS: Notice of proposal to amend the By- laws shall be given in the agenda. An affirmative vote of the majority of the senators is required for adoption.
