  2.1  I.  Principal of Representation

 

 

  A.  While the number of senators from each college shall be as proportional

      as possible to the number of faculty members eligible for Senate mem-

      bership in that college, each college will be represented by at least

      two senators.

 

  B.  The Library shall have one senator.

 

  C.  The boldface words in ARTICLE III, Section 2 of the Constitution of the

      Faculty Senate are interpreted as follows:

 

      1.  An appointment is considered CONTINUING unless the letter of ap-

          pointment states otherwise.

 

      2.  The term ACADEMIC DEPARTMENT for the purpose of the Faculty Senate

          Constitution shall apply only to those departments and divisions

          that are actively involved in the teaching of credit courses or the

          awarding of degrees in specific academic disciplines.  The precise

          interpretation of this term will be made by the Credentials and

          Elections Committee, which will maintain a list of those depart-

          ments that are in this category.

 

      3.  The UNIVERSITY-LEVEL and COLLEGE-LEVEL administrators are the Pres-

          ident, Provost, associate and assistant provosts, vice-presidents,

          associate and assistant vice-presidents, the deans, associate and

          assistant deans and assistant to any of the preceding.

 

      4.  The LIBRARY administrators are the director, assistant directors

          and department heads.

 

      5.  A faculty member is considered to be STUDYING FOR A DEGREE at the

          University if the faculty member is currently pursuing a program of

          study that has been filed in the Graduate School office.

 

  D.  An eligible faculty member who is not affiliated by appointment with

      one of the colleges is assigned by the Credentials and Elections Com-

      mittee to the college the Committee considers most appropriate.

 

  E.  Faculty representation for joint appointees shall be in proportion to

      their appointments in each college.
