2.4 IV. Nominations and Elections by the Senate A. INITIAL ELECTION - At the first meeting of the Faculty Senate called by the Chairman of a Faculty Committee appointed by the University Coun- cil, the senators shall elect a temporary chairman, secretary, and parliamentarian from nominations from the floor. The temporary offi- cers shall serve until regular officers are elected. The chairman and pro-tem shall call for nominations from the floor and the senators shall elect a Nominating Committee composed of two senators from each of the three colleges with the largest faculty representation in the Faculty Senate and one senator from each of the other colleges. The Nominating Committee shall elect its chairman. At the second meeting of the Faculty Senate, the Nominating Committee shall present a slate of officers, nominations shall be requested from the floor, and the Senate shall elect its officers. The Senate shall elect the Committee on Committees from nominations made from the floor. At the third meeting of the Faculty Senate, the Committee on Committees shall present a slate of nominees for Senate representation on the Uni- versity Council and Commission, and for Senate committee membership. Nominations shall be requested from the floor. Elections shall follow. Permission of candidates must be obtained before names are placed in nomination. Elections shall be by secret ballot. A majority vote of those present shall be necessary to elect. In case no candidate re- ceives a majority, the candidate receiving the fewest votes shall be eliminated in each successive balloting until one candidate receives a majority. All those elected shall take office immediately. B. REGULAR ELECTIONS - Each year the Committee on Committees shall appoint a Nominating Committee composed of one senator from each of the col- leges and the library which shall present a slate of officers for the Faculty Senate at the next to last regular spring quarter meeting. At the last regular spring quarter meeting, the Committee on Committees shall present a slate of nominees for Senate representation on the Uni- versity Council and Commissions, and for Senate committee membership. Nominations for vacant posts on the Committee on Committees shall be made by the Nominating Committee. Permission of candidates must be obtained before names are placed in nomination. Elections by secret ballot shall be conducted after nomi- nations are presented at each meeting. A plurality vote shall elect. Those elected shall take office on the first day of September.
