July 16, 1831 -- letter from James Patton Preston in Richmond, VA to James McDowell in Lexington, VA
Richmond July 16th 1831
Dear Sir
In consequence of my neice having expressed a great wish to have the skill of a dentist, & hoping through his means to be released from the tooth ache with which she has been so much afflicted. I have prevailed on Mr. Houston to call on you. I can with great confidence introduce him to you as a most able and highly approved dentist. Mr. Houston has shown a kindness and friendly disposition towards me, and I hope you will (should it be in your power) promote him in his professional views.
with my affectionate regard for all of you
I remain ---- yours
James P. Preston
