October 5, 1798 -- letter from Francis Preston to James McDowell
Dear Sir,
Mr Ewing going to your house gives me a favourable opportunity to inform you, myself and little family are in our usual state of health. I wish to know who is appointed a commissioner under the Federal Land law in the room of Mr. Breckenridge a friend of mine in this county wants the appointment of assessor ---- Elizah ---- who I think miss calculated for it being rock ---- granted with the land of this county having acted for some ---- as Dept. ----, if you can forward his pretensions I would thank you.
I am attending court on the claim for land ---- my work, it is not yet come on and probably will not this court, should you share ---- the ----.
