The Lyric
Theatre: A Look Back at the Beginnings
Auditorium

Lyric Trivia
"Two doors on the right of the foyer open on the heavily carpeted aisles of the auditorium
proper, which seats 675. The decorative scheme of the auditorium is warm gray with ornamental
plaster tinted in burnt umber. All draperies are maroon and trimmed in gold. Elaborate stage
draperies are all flame proof and include a proscenium velour drape and curtains and varied
interior and exterior sets with orange cyclorama. The stage is sufficient size for productions not
including more than 20 in the cast."
From the Roanoke Times, April 16, 1930.

"The velour upholstering on the seats in the Lyric contains a special accoustical padding
which aids materially in securing ideal sound qualities?"
From the V. P. I. Skipper, April 1930.
