PRESENT: Elsie Weatherington, Edward Gaynor, Lucious Edwards, Bradley Daigle, and Jodi Koste (recorder)
The second year training session will be held on the originally scheduled dates of September 13th and 14th. Participants will be urged to make hotel reservation as soon as possible since the University of Virginia will be playing football against Penn State in Charlottesville on the evening of September 13th.
We briefly discussed the presentation to the VIVA Steering Committee and SCHEV LAC. There seemed to be a great interest in our project from the library directors and many questions were asked during the presentation.
A draft of the press release was distributed during the presentation. Edward will send an electronic copy to James Madison for VIVA approval and distribution. Following approval, VHP Executive Committee members will send out the notice to the various listservs identified at the May 23 meeting. Each individual should send a message to the VIVASC-L following the posting of the press release on each list.
Suggestions for finding aids: make URL on the title pages of each guide hyperlinks.
Agenda for July VHP Executive Committee meeting: we need to discuss what the costs might be to sustain the central processing unit at UVA once the NEH grant is over. We should also consider how much time permanent staff dedicate to mark-up. In evaluating the costs, we should look at what it costs to do a retrospective project separately from what it would cost to do ead mark-up on newly processed collections.
The August meeting will be a full task force meeting of all VIVA Special Collections representatives. The meeting will be held at the Library of Virginia on August 17th at 10:30 am. The Executive Committee will meet over lunch following the general meeting.
The Executive Committee will met next on July 20, 2001 at 10:30 am in Special Collections at Alderman Library.
