War Department General Orders No. 99, dated July 15, 1898, designated insignia, flags and pennants for the Corps, Divisions, and Brigades of the Army. That authorization was modified a bit and implemented by Major General Fitzhugh Lee, the commanding general of the Seventh Army Corps. The badges and flags which actually were utilized within the Seventh Army Corps were:
| The seven-pointed star was the emblem of the Seventh Army Corps. Red as the color of the star indicated the First Division; white the Second Division; and blue the Third Division. In the brigade Pennants the stripe next to the staff, red symbolized the First Brigade, white the Second Brigade, and blue the Third Brigade. The outside shape and size of the flag denoted the level of the organization. |
