The Culinary History Advisory Board lost an enthusiastic supporter and benefactor on January 26, 2003. Dr. Peacock's original donation of his wife's cookbook collection to the Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise Department, College of Human Resources and Education, at Virginia Tech became the one of the pillars of the Peacock-Harper Culinary Collection.
Many of us who are involved with the Peacock-Harper Collection and the Culinary History Collection did not have the opportunity to meet or know this fine gentleman. However, an The by Jean Robbins that appeared in the first issure of the Virginia Culinary Thymes, "Getting to know Dr. Markham Peacock," gave us an opportunity to know Dr. Peacock as a friend.
