Biography:

Charles Samuel Worley, Jr., was a Professor of Architecture at Virginia Tech from 1947 to 1982 and a Professor Emeritus from 1982 until his death in 1995. He received his B.S. in Architectural Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1936 and his M.S. in Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1941.

Scope and Content:

The Charles S. Worley, Jr., papers consist almost exclusively of architectural drawings of designs by Worley, done from the mid-1950s to the early 1960s, with several designs undated. The collection also includes photographs of Worley and his own residence, as well as slides taken by Worley of Blacksburg, Virginia; Smithfield Plantation, also in Blacksburg; and the Ogunquit Museum of American Art in Maine.

Provenance:

The Charles S. Worley, Jr., papers were donated to the University Libraries in September 1996 by Margaret Atkins Worley, Melinda Worley Brown, and Charlotte Atkins. They were organized in October and December 1996, by Jennifer Royal, student assistant, and Laura Katz Smith, Manuscripts Curator, Special Collections Department. Additions to the collection (the Fisher residence drawings and the slides) were processed into the collection in June 1997 by Laura Katz Smith.
