December 19, 1836. Letter from Jane H. Threves near Gallatin, Tennessee, to her cousin Hiram Duncan of Stokes County, North Carolina.
Back of letter is addressed to "Mr. Hiram Duncan, Blakly, Stokes County, North Carolina." Note that the letter was "Recd this 11th Jany 1837 H.D."

Sir your letter has just come to hand it has bin lying in the post office for 3 months I saw it advertised an sent for it we liv 15 miles from gallatin I am the youngs daughter of Owen White my father has bin ded 1 year the 4 of January last soon will be 2 years My Mother is living & I an my son is living with her she is verry old & in firm but can go about verry well my Fathers children has all bin Maried an left him ten years before his deth my olds brother Thompson livs in the west end of this state weekly county(?) near Brownsville frilden livs in alabama lawrenc county. Leighten Rubin livs in Nashville Davidson county Tenn 23 miles from us (Lewcy Lewis & Susan has departed this life) you wrote about uncle benJamin he is living 8 miles north of Huntsville Madison County Alabama we recd a letter from his son petter not long sins he stated that uncle was in a lo state of helth he has only 3 Children living the was all with him when I herd from then last petter Mary & Delila is ther names I will write to them you wis to know somthing about the bradfords old taylor billy & Harry has bin ded 7 or 8 years ther childrens is all scatterd about over the cuntry thar is sevral of then livs in & near Huntsville alabama.
you wished to no somthing about the presidents election, if you ar a reader of the public news papers you can satisfy your self by reading them better perhaps than I can by writing I can say this much we ar all white men hear. all kinds of produce is verry high & property also ---- is selling as high in Nashville as eight dollars flour 5 ---- barrel corn 2 & 250 & grapes generly good with the Exeprt of tobacco it is worth from $3 to 5 & 6 pr hundred.
I wish you to write to me & let me know about all my relations write about Aunt Cloah & Susan & your father & how menny children he has I wish you would tell me something about my cousins Landon & Charles I can remember them verry well giv my lov to all of them when you see them My Mother wishes to be remberd to her brother an all her relation & to hear often from them I bid you a due Jane H Threves
