Kansas City Mo Feb 24th 1862
I commenced this letter at Platte Citty as you se but did not finish it before we started for the Fort and I have not had anny chance to write since we stayed there 3 or 4 days and then started for this place it took us 2 days to come from the Fort to this place we came through Quindaro on Sunday the Co came to a halt in the town so I got pemission to leave the ranks to look for Abe Stores I found that he lived in a house near by so I went to his house he was gest Starting for Church gest as I got to the house I did not go in Fanny has a child 2 weeks old he urged me to stay all day but I told him I would come some other time Abe Harper went over to Wiendot yesterday to se Abe Convers folkes they live 3 miles from this place Abe Stores 6 miles there seames to be a sort of a distemper here at west that is like a cold and sore throat the soldiers and cittizens have it alike and I am having my share of it I took some peper tea last night and put a wet towel on my throat I feel some better to day

wen we went to the Fort we expected to go on to Ft Scot but now we expect to go to Louisville Kentucky and from there I think we will go home I have ben looking arround the town some to day I find nearly half of the buildings unoccupied it is quite a large town and has ben one of the most buisness places in the west I found Levenworth Citty to be verry differant it is full of folks and buisness when I comenced this letter at Platte Citty I was a going to tel you more about the Slaves but that has got rather old now but I did see a good menny colord folks in Levenworth Citty that was Slaves in Platte Citty when we went there I went to se some ceces or jayhawkers that our men took they are a hard looking set Co L lost one man in the fight I have managed to bring all of my things to this place and I presume I shal take them further
I have not much time to write now I will try and write again in a few days it is time I had a letter from you again but I dont get it what should you think about coming here to live Excuse this old dirty letter and look for something better next time Yours yhet, L. Wood
