Special Collections and University Archives in Newman Library is devoted to collecting, preserving, and providing access to primary source materials.

Special Collections and University Archives will be opening LATE at 11a on Friday, May 15. We will close at our usual time (5p.) In addition, we will be closed on Thursday, May 21 (along with the rest of Newman Library), for a staff professional development day.

Search our digital content and finding aids

For rare books and publications, search the University Libraries catalog.

For finding aids, you can also search Archival Resources of the Virginias (ARVAS). ARVAS indexes finding aids (collection descriptions) to manuscripts and archival materials held by more than 55 historical societies, libraries, museums, colleges, universities, and other cultural heritage institutions across Virginia and West Virginia. This includes finding aids for manuscript collections, record group (university records), maps, textiles, oral histories, and art and artifacts held by Special Collections and University Archives at Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech Special Collections and University Archives in the University Libraries offers a wealth of material to support research, engage one’s interests, and excite the imagination. Our mission is to collect and preserve unique, historical materials and provide access to them in their original form. When possible, Special Collections and University Archives also offers materials in digital format.
